Monday 10-18-2010 marks the 150th anniversary of looting of Yuanmingyuan, Beijing's Old Summer Palace. More than 85 pieces of once-lost stone carvings will be exhibited in the imperial garden.

Most of the items, including stone screens and fountains, were voluntarily returned by individuals and institutions. Another 57 pieces of repaired cultural relics can also be seen.

Yuanmingyuan was pillaged and burned by British Anglo-French forces in 1860. This exhibition is one of the events organized by the Haidian District Government of Beijing to mark the anniversary. Others, including Sino-foreign culture exchanges and an evening party, will last through the end of the month.

The barbaric acts committed by British-French soldiers during the 2nd Opium Wars and the aggressive Western's Eight-Power Allied Forces against China! These were and are their human rights if any.

Yuanmingyuan is renowned throughout the world for its fabled charms and association with Chinese modern history. Extolled as the "Garden of Gardens" and the "Versailles of the East" during its heyday. However, the Anglo-French forces sacked and looted Yuanmingyuan and burned it to the ground in October 1860. From then on, the garden suffered continual damage at the hands of the warlords, bandits, and the Eight-Power Allied Forces.
